Continuing to Step Up to the Plate for Coachella Valley

altum_find_food_bank_signFor the past year, The Altum Group has carried out a year-round program of collecting food for the needy in the Coachella Valley. For many people in the Coachella Valley, hunger is a 365-day-a–year problem that affects the homeless, seniors, impoverished and working-poor families, and children. We have been successful at collecting canned goods and non-perishables to donate to the Find Food Bank – the single largest distributor to hungry persons and families in our community. The Find Food Bank provides food to persons who suffer from hunger and malnutrition. They provide this service directly through their organization as well as their partner agencies who provide food to over 80,000 people in the Coachella Valley.

As a Coachella-based firm, our managers and staff care deeply about our community and are committed to doing our part to help solve hunger in our region. These values are part of our brand promise to #caredeeply and #StriveHigher in our professional and personal lives.

Supporting Global Music in Palm Springs – World Association of Marching Show Bands

The Altum Group is proud to be a sponsor of the 2017 World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) World Championship. This year’s event is the first to be held in the United States and is hosted by the Palm Springs High School Spirit of the Sands Band. The event runs from Nov 28 – Dec 2.

The event offers our communities an invitation to appreciate and respect the diversity and uniqueness of each performing ensemble, the regions from which they come from, and the countries that each represent. This year’s competition includes bands from the Czech Republic, Germany, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, USA, and more!

This year’s WAMSB Palm Springs World Championship event is coordinated by Altum Group president, Michael Peroni and his wife Cecilia, who, for three decades, have contributed to the lives of the students and the community of Palm Springs by sharing their lives and talents during the Palm Springs Invitational Tournaments. This year Mike and Cecila provided countless hours in hosting the wonderful bands who have come to participate in the first World Association of Marching Show Bands World Championship to be held in the United States.

Founded in 1991, the WAMSB and its volunteers have strived to connect marching show bands from around the world to facilitate communication and deliver the beauty of music. 26 years later the WAMSB is a worldwide network of marching show bands, hosting international competitions and sharing their charitable and educational interests.

Learn more about the Salton Sea and participate in the Salton Sea Authority’s upcoming workshops

The Salton Sea Authority (SSA) has recently unveiled a new and improved website focused on creating a modern, information and interactive hub for SSA members and the public to learn more about the environmental issues at the Salton Sea and proposed solutions.

The Salton Sea is the largest inland lake in the State of California, and home to North America’s largest population of migratory waterfowl outside of the Everglades. The Sea provides nesting habitat to nearly two thirds of all migratory waterfowl (including 400 species of birds) traveling the Pacific Flyway. Although only in existence in its current form since 1906, the Sea serves as a stopover on the flyway as the increasing loss of habitat along the Pacific Coast to urban development has occurred. The Salton Sea’s ecosystem and economy are threatened by rising salinity levels and lowering water elevations, a trend expected to worsen due to massive agricultural-to-urban water transfers in December 2017. While proposed solutions are controversial, the dust storms anticipated by the exposed playa, are expected to have devastating effects to ecological and human health and the area economy.

The Altum Group encourages everyone in the community to learn more about the Salton Sea and actively participate in SSA’s upcoming workshops that will be conducted throughout the community!

The Salton Sea Authority is a joint powers authority formed by partner agencies including Imperial Irrigation District, Riverside and Imperial counties, Coachella Valley Water District, and Torres Martinez Tribe. SSA’s mission is to protect human health and revitalize the environment and economy of the Sea.
